Frequently Asked Questions

Money from cancellations made 48 hours prior to the trip can be applied to another package for the same calendar year, but will not be refunded. You may substitute another person with no penalty. Cancellations must be made 30 days or more prior to trip for a refund less your deposit in writing. Taxes and river access fees are non refundable. There is a $25.00 service charge for any rescheduling within 30 days of trip. If reservations are cancelled the morning of the trip, the full amount will charged to card on file. This action negates previous discounts.

We recommend you wear your bathing suit and then a pair of shorts and a t-shirt, plus a pair of old tennis shoes.

Shorts: Swimming shorts or synthetic fabrics work best.
T-shirt: Quick dry, synthetic fabrics work best. Don’t wear cotton.
Shoes: Must be wearing shoes connected to feet. No flip flops or bare feet. Best choice is old tennis shoes.
Sun protection:  Hat, sunscreen, old sunglasses (strap recommended)

  • Waterproof sunscreen & lip protection
  • A towel, dry clothes and shoes for the end of the trip.
  • A bottle of water.
  • A plastic bag to put your wet clothes in.

NOTE: We are able to look after your car keys while you are on your trip but have no room to store other items. Please keep this in mind and leave valuables at home.

We will try our best to keep you in the boat but obviously it is possible that you can fall in. Don’t worry, we’ll get you back in the boat as soon as possible.

Our guides love what they do but they do work especially hard to see that your trip is memorable. If you feel that your guide gave that extra effort to support your experience, it is customary to show your appreciation with a tip; a guideline is 10-20% of your total retail trip cost. This would be both generous and appreciated.

The campground we are based out of requires you to check in your vehicle and pay for parking. It is $4 and cash is preferred.

For safety and liability reasons, no alcoholic beverages may be consumed on the river or prior to our trips. Any participants who have consumed alcohol prior to the trip may not be allowed to board the rafts subject to the discretion of the head guide. Abusive or drunken behavior that offends our staff or other participants will not be tolerated.

If you have specific requests then we will do our best to accommodate them. All we ask at least 3 days advance notice.

We work with another company that takes photos for us. We can put you in touch with them to make the appropriate arrangements.

The average is 7 people but it can vary depending on the groups, conditions and rafts used. If you have a group that wants to go together then just let us know and we will try and accommodate you. We do have larger boats available on request.

Our meeting time is very PROMPT. We do our best to be as fast as possible when checking our guests in, so if you anticipate being late please call as early as possible to let them know. As a courtesy to our guests who arrive on time, we will wait no longer than 30 minutes for you (i.e. If you meet at 12, then we will wait until 12:30pm). If we do not hear from you and our messages are not returned, we will consider your reservation as a no show and it will be not be refunded or rescheduled. We are understanding of traffic and other issues so please communicate with us and if done so, we will do our best to reschedule you at a later time, however everything is subject to availability and there are no guarantees.

A buffet-style lunch is available for an additional $15 per person unless otherwise noted by your booking agent and you’ve purchased a trip where lunch is already included. We have an amazing cook on staff and all food is organic, local, and homemade. If you would like to add this option and you haven’t already done so, please alert your booking agent a minimum of 72 hours prior to trip. This will change your meeting time as lunch is provided upon arrival so please speak with your booking agent if you are interested in modifying your reservation. Also, if you have any special requests or concerns please alert your booking agent at that time.

If you do have dietary restrictions of any kind it is incredibly important you alert your booking agent at least 72 hours before your trip. Vegetarians and vegans can be accommodated as well. Please note that if you cancel the morning of the trip and have booked lunch, the lunch portion will not be refunded or applied to another trip as the food is freshly prepared that morning.

Wetsuits are recommended in the months of April, May, September and October for our trips. Wetsuit rentals are $10 per person. If you do have a personal wetsuit please feel free to let your booking agent know and bring it along, otherwise please alert us to the height, weight and gender of each person so that we can properly size you. Wet suits are not regularly packed for trips, so if you are interested it is very important you speak with a booking agent prior to the trip.

We don’t recommend bringing anything on your trip that you are not willing to part with. Photos are taken at major rapids on all South Fork Trips and the Middle Fork Tunnel Chute, and Sierra Whitewater has coupons for the photo companies upon request. If you would still prefer to bring your own camera, it must be of the waterproof type and Sierra Whitewater is not responsible for any lost or damaged items.

They’ll be lots of smaller rapids throughout the courses and some of the following depending on which trip you choose:
Class II Rapids: Novice
Class III Rapids: Intermediate
Class IV Rapids: Advanced
Class V Rapids: Expert

If you are of a reasonable fitness level then you should have no problems. Please be aware that the trip involves some physical exertion and potential exposure to the elements, including cold water and weather, heat, sun, wind and rain.

For the beginner and intermediate rafting trip, swimming is not a requirement but please let us know in advance if you cannot swim.

Being a competent swimmer is a requirement for the advanced rafting trips unless prior arrangements with a booking agent has been made.

Unfortunately not. Pregnant women aren’t permitted on our rafting trips for their own safety.

Yes, a release form is required for everyone in the party and those that are under the age of 18 require their liability form to be signed by a parent or guardian. If you need a liability form in advance we can offer you one via fax or email. Please let the booking agent know if you need any prior to your arrival for your trip- otherwise all liability forms must be signed prior to your trip and can be done so when we meet you the day of!

Unfortunately, no. Pets are not allowed on any of our raft trips.

We supply everything you need for your trip; you may wish to bring a small amount of cash for souvenirs, photographs, film, T-shirts and gratuities.

If you are interested in camping or local hotels please let your booking agent know. We contract with a wonderful campground and would be happy to handle your reservations for you. If you are interested in local hotels/motels/etc just contact us and we will  be happy to provide you with a list of local accommodations.
